After this 2-day course the participants should be able to examine Rabbits and Rodents orally and give advice which further diagnostics needed. In addition, they should be able to explain pet owners the need for special food and keeping to prevent those animals from dental disease. Fundamentals on dental instrumentation and special equipment as part of the course should help the attendees to finish their specialist clinic.

Following graduation from the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna/Austria in
2005, Dr. Matthias Eberspächer-Schweda spent one-year in private practice, before
commencing a one-year small animal rotating internship at the University of
Veterinary Medicine, Vienna. After two-years as assistant at the Department of Small
Animal Surgery he started to work together with Prof. Karl Zetner at the Dentistry and
Oral Surgery Department at the university hospital. After Prof. Zetner’s retirement in
2010 he completed a 5-week externship at the Department of Dentistry and Oral
Surgery, University of Pennsylvania, USA which happened again in 2012. In 2011 he
passed an exam at the Austrian Chamber to become a Small Animal Specialist. In
2014 Dr. Eberspächer-Schweda published his thesis which was honored by the
Austrian Society of Small Animal Practioneers as the best clinical paper. He also
completed many trainings in Dentistry and Oral Surgery such as ESAVS Dentistry 1-4,
and AOVET Master Courses since he started an AVDC full-time residency in 2015. Dr.
Eberspächer-Schweda is currently Chief of Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the
university’s veterinary hospital. His clinical research interests include oral and
maxillofacial surgery (oncology and trauma) maxillofacial reconstruction, and
diagnostic imaging technologies in dentistry and oral surgery, such as cone-beam CT
and micro-CT in both cats and dogs, and small mammals. He is founding member of
the Austrian Veterinary Dental Society, and member of the European Veterinary
Dental Society. Beside his clinical work and research he is presenting on different
national and international congresses.
