09.juni - 10.juni
25.mai 2018

To dagers kurs som er rettet mot veterinærer som ønsker å forbedre sine kunnskaper i oftalmologi.

Small animal Ophthalmology
This two days course is aimed at general practitioners who want to improve their ophthalmology skills.

It starts with a refresher on the ophthalmic examination, how best to perform it, and what equipment is required. This will be followed by a “hands-on” session, allowing the
delegates to put these techniques into practice. There will be discussion of the normal variation, seen in the eyes of our feline and canine patients. This will be complemented by case presentations, to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of common presenting signs, such as the cloudy eye, the red eye, the wet eye, corneal ulcerations and loss of vision.

The second day is all about the surgical treatment of ophthalmic diseases. It will start with an overview of instruments and equipment required, as well as talking about patient preparation. Surgical techniques for use on the eyelids, third eyelid and cornea will be described and discussed. Delegates will get a chance to practice these techniques later in the day during a wet lab session. By the end of the two days, delegates should be enthused about eyes, and raring to get back to the clinic!

By the end of this course, delegates should have a thorough understanding of:
• How to approach clinical cases in a logical manner, and perform a good basic eye examination.
• The normal variations seen in our patients’ eyes, relating to breed, age and coat colour etc.
• The differential diagnoses for common presenting signs, such as the wet eye, corneal ulceration, hyphaema, sudden loss of vision and exophthalmoses etc.
• The medical and surgical treatment regimes for common ophthalmic problems.
• Preparation of the eye for surgery, and compiling a basic kit for ophthalmic surgery.
• The range of surgical procedures, available for use on the eyelids, third eyelid and cornea
